Il progetto RoMEO, che mantiene aggiornatal a banca dati che raccoglie 
le politiche dei diversi editori riguardo all’open access, ha creato una 
prodotto che potrebbe essere utile a molti: l’elenco degli editori (69) 
che, con (19 editori) o senza un embargo (50 editor)i, permettono agli 
autori di utilizzare il PDF della versione dell’editore (quello 
effettivamente pubblicato, per intendersi) per l’autoarchiviazione nel 
loro archivio istituzionale.

La lista, anche se non include i grandi editori commerciali che per ora 
permettono solo il deposito della versione referata del manoscritto, 
comprende diverse prestigiose società professionali in diversi ambiti 
disciplinari come la fisica, la matematica, biologia cellulare, alcune 
case editrici universitarie statunitensi e piccola e media editoria di 
qualità.
La lista ci risparmia un bel po' di lavoro perche' in modo rapido ci 
permette di identificare i 69 editori tra 414 presenti in ROMEO. I 69 
editori coprono 1334 titoli
Mi pare molto utile comunque e particolarmente utile per gli enti che in 
questo momento stanno facendo un lavoro di recupero e di deposito degli 
articoli pregressi per popolare il proprio archivio e che fino ad ora 
erano obbligati a controllare uno per uno gli editori e verificare se 
permettevano il deposito del loro PDF o contattarli per iscritto tutte 
le volte che si erano trovati/a a di fronte ad autori intenzionati a 
depositare l'articolo ma che non disponevano piu' del post-print perche' 
non lo avevamo conservato o non perche' la gestione dei contatti diretti 
con l'editore era stati tentuti non da loro in quanto co-autori ma da un 
loro collega.

Publisher version/PDF use in Institutional Repositories

SHERPA runs RoMEO as a service to academic authors and repository 
managers around the world to summarise publishers' contracts relating to 
open access archiving.

There is often a question about the use of the publishers own PDF 
version of research articles and whether these can be archived. It is 
often believed that all publishers prohibit the use of their own PDF: in 
fact the situation is very different.

SHERPA has analysed its records to determine which of the 414 publishers 
listed allow authors to deposit the publishers' version or publishers' 
PDF of a journal article into the author's institutional repository. 50 
publishers allow immediate, un-embargoed deposit into repositories -- 
even more allow use in restricted circumstances. This means that there 
is a large volume of work which can be deposited directly into 
repositories even if the author has not retained their own final draft. 
We hope that this information will help repository administrators in 
encouraging deposit into their repositories.

We have separated the publishers into sub-sets, indicating any 
restrictions that are imposed by the publishers on the use of their 
versions. The sub-sets are: no restrictions, embargos, fee required and 
embargo & fee required.

In total this shows that 69 out of the 414 publishers listed in RoMEO, 
allow the use of the publishers' final version of an article in an 
institutional repository in some manner. These 69 publishers cover 
approximately 1334 journal titles.
